Hi LSS
Did you wear a Black Shirt today? Today LSS acknowledged “Black Shirt Day” – a day to increase everyone’s awareness of the ongoing struggle for civil and human rights faced by Black and racialized Canadians and foster solidarity against all forms of racism and hate. The day, January 15 – Martin Luther King’s birthday, is also a day to encourage schools to discuss Black history in the classroom. To acknowledge this day, LSS had the honour of having a former graduate, Nina Charley, present virtually to all classes telling her story of racism and to encourage all of us to have courage to speak up against racism. Thank you Ms. Charley for enlightening us on our antiracism journey.
Road Safety
Just a reminder to parents and students to exercise caution on the roads on the way to/from school. Students who are on wheels need to be following the rules of the road and we all need to be aware of our surroundings when students and traffic are heavier around the school. Thank you for your cooperation on this to keep everyone safe.

Student Learning Surveys
Every year the Ministry of Education conducts learning surveys with our grade 10 and 12 students and parents/caregivers. Grade 10 and 12 students will be taking the short 15 minute survey between January 18th and February 23rd in their classes. Parents/caregivers are invited to participate in the survey as well any time between now and April 30th using the following link: www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm
Once on the page, under Parents and “Direct Access-No logon number required” choose our school district (Nanaimo-Ladysmith 68), school, language of preference and “Log on”. Thank you for providing your valuable feedback. The survey covers a range of topics, providing a comprehensive picture of the educational experience in B.C. Public Schools. The information gathered is used to assess the effectiveness of educational programs, to improve educational program delivery and to report on student performance and achievements toward system goals such as Human and Social Development and Career Development.
PAC fund raiser – Bottle collection – Thanks to all that have tried it out.
This might be the easiest fundraiser you have ever participated in! Take your empty Refundable beverage containers to the bottle depot and drop them off (they sort them and deposit the funds into the PAC account). That is it. Okay, there is a little bit more, but not much:
The only things you need are
- Large Clear (see-through) plastic bag(s)
- Refundable items – Friends, Family and Neighbours are great sources of refundable bottles, cans, and boxes
- Bags should not be too heavy, please split into multiple bags if necessary
- The school phone number 250 245 3043
The bag label kiosk at the Ladysmith Bottle Depot is inside to the right of the registers. At the kiosk you input the phone number 250 245 3043, confirm that it is Ladysmith Secondary PAC, choose the number of bags you’re depositing and print the labels. Place one label on each bag and deposit in the proper bin. There is a limit of 6 bags per drop off. – I’ve tried it and it was awesome.
Dates coming up
Jan 19th – PAC meeting on Zoom starting 6:30 pm (see above for link)
Jan 28th – Last day of regular classes for Quarter 2
Jan 29th – Students not in session unless invited by teacher, as staff prepare for Quarter 3
