LSS Weekly Communication - June 13th
Uy’ skweyul Ladysmith Secondary Students and Families,
Next week is the final week of the 2024-25 school year! We want to take the opportunity to express our gratitude to staff, students, and families for an excellent school year. In my first year as principal of LSS, I have been so grateful and proud to be part of such a welcoming school community.
We spent a lot of time this week welcoming our incoming (currently grade 7) students from Ladysmith Intermediate School and Ecole North Oyster as well our graduating and returning students. On Tuesday, we had the final band concert of the year. Special thanks to Mr. Potvin for putting together this awesome show. It was so nice to hear the amazing talent of our Jazz students and Guitar soloist. On Wednesday, grade 7 students from all of our family of schools joined us for the day to participate in tours, learn about our school community, and join in a day of fun that included time on inflatable bouncy castles and other activities. Our graduating students also had time to enjoy the festivities. We also hosted a school wide lunch outside where our cafeteria prepared 800 hot dogs for our school community to enjoy. Special thanks to our PAC for supporting this awesome school activity and to Chef and his team for preparing the food! We also welcomed 95 parents for our grade 7 family night on Wednesday evening where we were able to provide information about our school community, give a tour, and answer questions from families. Finally, on Friday, our school participated in a school colour gym riot, to celebrate the (almost) end of the school year with some fun games and camaraderie.
HOST Families needed for International Students in your community. The Nanaimo/Ladysmith International Homestay Program is seeking host families in the Ladysmith area for 17 international students arriving late August 2025. Do you have an extra bedroom in your home? Is English the primary language in your home? Do you want to learn about other cultures, countries and languages? Are you interested in making a difference in a high school student’s life? Become an International Student Homestay Family for next school year (5 months or 10 months). NLPS International Student Education Program is looking for Ladysmith Secondary catchment families interested in earning a stipend of $1,175 per month per student to host an international student in their home. Students need to have their own bedroom, a quiet space to study, and be provided 3 meals a day. Click here for more information. Our International Education team is available 24/7 for any kind of support you need (Ie. respite, vacation leave, student emergencies). Please click link below and complete the 1-2 minute form if you interested in learning more or becoming a Homestay family, or if you would like to refer someone to become a Homestay family.
