Kevin Brooks knows the horror of one day waking up to a life that has changed forever. From his wheelchair, he tells his story to audiences across North America, as a reminder to think before getting into a vehicle. He shares the consequences of his crash and the deep hurt felt by his loved ones so many can learn to not make the same mistakes. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry and you’ll remember his story. This presentation is part of the grade 11 Career Life Connection course.

This Week at LSS - May 6th
Hi LSS
This week LSS acknowledged the many Missing and Murdered Indigenous Girls and Women. You may notice red dresses hanging from the trees in front of the school. As you drive up to LSS, please look for them and spend some time in thought about this injustice.
Hay ch ‘qa to our student leaders who hung the dresses and remembered these women and girls in drumming and song.
LSS Improv
Ladysmith Improv! We are so proud of our Ladysmith improv troupe. Our Senior improv team placed 3rd in Canada in this year’s on-line qualifying tournament (Canadian Improv Games). Our Junior team placed 6th in Canada. This is a massive and wonderful achievement. Our Ladysmith community is beautifully represented by our extraordinarily talented youth. LSS regularly places well in this competition. Well done Mr. Taylor and IMPROV students.
The Tax man cometh
On Tuesday, May 10th, Canada Revenue will be conducting a virtual presentation on Taxes to all Grade 11 students. The presentation will take place during B-block from 2-3pm and covers why and how we file income tax
Artist Ambassador visit
On May 12th Josh Finlayson, Singer/Song Writer (Secret Path Band, Skydiggers) and Clare Downie (Gord Downie’s daughter) will be visiting our school and the Psychology 12 class. This group is visiting our school to see how we are working on reconciliation. It will be very exciting to have these guests in our building.
Full school Earthquake simulation – May 12th
This Thursday LSS is continuing on our quest to be prepared for emergencies such as an Earthquake. On May 12th we will not only do our regular Earthquake drill, but we will extend our drill with a partial simulation with students gathering in their alpha assembly areas and staff moving to secondary stations: assembly areas, first aid, student release, shelter building, search and rescue to name a few. We take student and staff safety serious and we need to practice in order to be prepared. We are so grateful for the support of our PAC, Ladysmith Health Auxiliary and to our community for all of the donations.
Scholarship committee
Guests from the community will be meeting this week to determine scholarship recipients. The Ladysmith community is extremely generous in supporting our grads and we have lots of gratitude for each donor. Scholarships will be presented during graduation on June 27th
