ANNOUNCEMENTS
Good Morning Ladysmith!
These are your announcements for
Monday, May 2, 2022
This month is Asian heritage month!
We recognize the contributions Asian Canadians have made in the development of this country. Their perseverance through multiple forms of oppression has been instrumental in strengthening our country’s labor movement and our communities. In spite of this, Asian communities continue to experience racism, as seen in the recent spike of anti-Asian hate crimes due to the false rhetoric surrounding COVID-19.
Remember to raise awareness and to take the time to educate yourself about Asian-Canadian heritage and social justice
Cafeteria
Today in the cafeteria, the Soup is Cream of Tomato, Buddha Bowls are also available, Salad Special is Penne Pasta Salad and the Short Order is Poutine

This Week at LSS - April 29th
Hi LSS
Guess what? What? It is report card time.
We are planning on publishing report cards Tuesday, end of day. Please access them through the Parent Portal for they are great to read. Have discussions with your kids while you share a meal together. Talk not just about how they did but the cool things that they are learning. I love reading report cards and seeing how students are doing.
Explore your gifts LSS students!
Project Respect
This week our grade 9 students participated in Project Respect organized by our Child and Youth Family support Worker – Kim Chadwick, we just say CYFSW. Topics covered were healthy relationships, power, boundaries, consent skills (creating a culture of consent) and bystander information.
“Hey Travs, have you not covered that before?” Just because you heard it once doesn’t mean you learned it.
Thanks Kim and team for this important topic as we all work together to build a culture of compassion and respect.
Ladysmith Resource Centre – Restorative Justice Program
Through the LRCA’s Restorative Justice Program, we recently completed a pilot circle process in Mr. Jackson’s Humanities 9 class. Circles create spaces of belonging, interconnection and resilience. As a non-hierarchical form of communication, they encourage deep listening and sharing while providing safe spaces to address needs and solve problems for individuals and groups.
French Immersion Cultural Presentation
LSS would like to express our graditude to the BC Ministry of Education, Canadian Parents for French BC & Yukon Branch and the CPF Nanaimo-Ladysmith Chapter for providing our French Immersion students with a wonderful opportunity to participate in Malicounda, a French drumming workshop on April 28th at LSS.
On Tuesday, May 10th, Canada Revenue will be conducting a virtual presentation on Taxes to all Grade 11 students. The presentation will take place during B-block from 2-3pm and covers why and how we file income tax. On this day, a zoom link will be sent to classroom teachers and students will participate in the activity in their scheduled classroom. Please let me know if you have any questions regarding this presentation.

This Week at LSS - April 22nd Addition
This Week at LSS - April 22nd
Hi LSS
Fashion found its form this week. Many students wore their finest Thrift store wares on Thursday and had the opportunity show them off in our lunch time fashion show. We wanted to acknowledge the local Thrift store as the Ladysmith Health Auxiliary is a big supporter of the “Hunger Bites” food program here at LSS. What is “Hunger Bites?” We recognize that learning happens best when stomachs are full – feed the stomach nourish the mind. Through support from the community and school funds we can offer a breakfast program, sandwiches at lunch and various snacks each day.
Thanks to students’ council for finding outfits for Ms. Harrison and me. Some students mentioned I looked like Eminem or Jesse Pinkman – is that a compliment?
Thanks Health Auxiliary for supporting our students and for making us look so fashionable.
