This Week at LSS

Good Day LSS

How are you doing? I hope you are trying to find ways to take care of yourself in these crazy days. Do you have someone that you check in with on a regular basis? I have a buddy that I have been checking in with for over 30 years. Last weekend I sat outside with him around a fire and just chatted about life. Helps me make sense of the world.

Don’t forget: Turn your clocks back on Saturday night when you go to sleep – Fall Back. More Sleep!

Completion day – Nov. 13th
The first quarter ends Nov. 12th for regular classes. Friday Nov. 13th has no formal classes. Students that need to be in the building to finish final assessments or work in order to have a successful first quarter will be notified by their teacher. We call this day – completion day. At the end of every quarter in all secondary schools their will be a completion day where students are not all in session.

Quarter 2 schedules
On Nov. 9th students will be given another copy of their schedule to remind them of their quarter 2 classes. Remember that due to cohorts doing any course changes are very limited. Talk to your counsellor if necessary.

Report cards for Quarter 1
Report cards should be on the Parent MyEd portal by Nov 23rd but we are hoping to get them out sooner. You will be notified when they are ready for viewing.

Call for Donations

If you have unused dolls/action figures (Barbies, GI Joe, Incredible Hulks, etc.), the mathematics department wants them.  Students will predict the number of elastics needed for each figure to have an exhilarating, but safe, bungee jump from the balcony overlooking the foyer.  We are looking for 30 or so figures – we’ll take more if you have them – around the size and weight of a Barbie doll (Cabbage Patch dolls would be too heavy).  Any donations can be left at the front office.  Thank you.

Halloween Fun

Thanks to student’s council for creating a festive Halloween

PAC Minutes

Numeracy and Literacy assessments
The week of Nov 2nd we are doing these assessments. Staff have been busy creating a schedule and all student and families have been notified today if they are to write. We are focusing on the grade 11 and 12 students this go around. In January we will work on the grade 10s.

Lock Down Drill
This past week we had a Lock Down Drill – this drill is practiced to keep students and staff safe in the event that an intruder enters our building. Thanks to students for taking this drill seriously. You did an exceptional job of keeping quiet and following the procedure. Made me very proud.

Dates coming up:

Nov. 2nd to 6th – Numeracy 10 and Literacy 10 assessment – see above
Nov. 10th – Remembrance Day assembly – through Teams and streamed into classrooms
Nov. 11th – Remembrance Day – school not in session

Nov. 12th – Last regular day of classes for quarter 1
Nov. 13th – Completion day
Nov. 16th – Quarter 2 starts.

Enjoy the weather
