This Week at LSS - March 3rd
Hi LSS Family
At school we sometimes get so busy that we forget to listen to our clients (students). In staff meeting this past week, we had two students participate and share what they felt would make LSS a better place. These same students also attended a Student Voice session with the Superintendent. Special thanks go to these courageous students.
One of the take aways was that students would like to be more involved in discussions. We will plan to have one “Hot Topics” discussion once a month in classrooms moving forward. Some topics will be around ERASE bullying program and our soon to be gender inclusive washroom that is being created over the summer.
LSS getting better each day.
Parent Teacher Interviews – March 8th from 3:30 to 6:00
Please make plans to visit the school for Parent Teacher Interviews. This semester we are hosting the interviews “LIVE” in the gym. Why “LIVE”? In the first semester, we did it virtually and this did not work for all parents/caregivers. To change things up we thought we would go in person. How will it work? Show up, get a copy of your child’s schedule from us and then locate teacher names as posted around the gym perimeter (I could have said walls but the math guy in me got excited about using the word perimeter) and line up to chat with that teacher.
If you are hungry stop by the hot dog station and have a snack.
Early Dismissal – March 8th 1 p.m.
To prepare for interviews with parents school will be out at 1 p.m. Busses will come early on Wednesday.
PAC Corner
Our next meeting will be Monday, March 6th at 5:45pm, please consider joining us!
Request from PAC in support of our emergency response plans
“Please forward any old towels you no longer need to the school office for the Emergency Kiosk. They will be used to dry wet surfaces (i.e. tables, mats, clipboards, etc.) during emergencies when the Kiosk is required.”
Core competencies round two – thinking skills
On March 7th students will do a self reflection on how they use critical and creative thinking skills in their learning. Core competencies need to be reported on each year. Look for this document to come home on the next day. This would make a great conversation at the dinner table.
Student and Parent Learning Survey
On Wednesday, February 15th all grade 10 and 12 families would have received an email in regards to the Student and Parent Annual Learning Surveys. We are also asking for grade 10 and 12 parents to participate in the survey to provide the parent feedback any time before April 29th. The parent survey is approximately 15 minutes long as well. Please go to: www.bced.gov.bc.ca/sat_survey/access.htm.
