This Week at LSS - April 22-26, 2024
Uy’ skweyul Ladysmith Secondary Students and Families,
This week was Assessment week at LSS, where students currently enrolled in Math 10, EFP 10, and EFP 12 completed their numeracy and Literacy Provincial Assessments. If your student missed an assessment or you are unsure if they still need to complete an assessment, please connect directly with their counsellor. This week also marks the end of the first term of semester 2. Report cards will be available on the MyEd parent portal beginning May 1st. Please contact the office or your student’s counsellor (after May 1st) if you are unable to access their report card.
Next Wednesday is Administrative Professional’s Day. We wanted to take the opportunity to stop and highlight the work of some very important members of our school community. Shawna, Anna, Barb, and Andrea work tirelessly in our office to support staff and students with every component of school operation. From first aid, to grad, finance, to scheduling, these ladies do it all with a smile. When you see them next week, please take a moment to stop and thank them for all of the work they do to make LSS an amazing place to be.
On Monday, April 15th we were honored to have Denise Augustine (Superintendent of Indigenous Education Ministry of Education and Child Care) and Frederick Brown, Guest Author at Learning Forward visit our school to work alongside our Land and Language Program. They were gifted special items from our students and had an opportunity to engage in a wonderful day of discussion and learning alongside our Land and Language family.
We also want to acknowledge and appreciate two special Hulq’uminum speaking guests tetsumatt & tulcimutlaat here from the University of Victoria, working with our Land and Language program offering cultural teachings and Hulq’uminum language. We are honored to have them here with us sharing their knowledge and gifts.
On behalf of the PAC, we also want to draw your attention to their Facebook page, which highlights important school and district offerings. If you haven’t checked it out, please take the opportunity to do so. Information about and from the PAC is found weekly at the bottom of these emails under PAC corner.
As we approach the end of the year, we are excited for all of the excitement that is on horizon. In the coming weeks, we will be looking at welcoming our incoming grade 7’s and celebrating our grade 12’s as they venture out into the world. Returning students will be thinking about their schedules next year and all of the amazing opportunities they can participate within our school community. Regardless of your interests, we hope you find a way to connect with others in the school in a positive way and make some meaningful memories.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Stephen Epp & Shelley Gvojich

Did you know PAC meetings are typically no more than an hour long? They are much different than elementary school meetings, there’s no fundraising or hot lunches involved! There will be several executive positions to fill in the next school year. Please consider attending to have your voice heard!
Please continue to send your Country Grocer receipts into the school, it’s appreciated!

Uy’ skweyul Ladysmith Secondary Students and Families,
As we approach the half-way mark of April, we are entering a busy few weeks. Next week, on Wednesday, April 17th we will be having our final early dismissal of the year. Students will be released on April 17th at 2pm, however buses will depart at the same times on this day. Next week is also the next sitting of our provincial literacy and numeracy assessments. This week students self-assessed the thinking core competency in their B-block class. This was completed either on paper and sent home, or via google classroom. Report cards will be released to families on the MyEd portal on May 1st.
Over the past two weeks we have had a lot of work done on our track by our district staff to remove the overgrown areas.
